In 1990, this mill approached Ahmed Ibrahim, Papyrus Inc. to help us to improve quality and productivity of our No.1 Paper Machine. After three days of assessing our headbox configuration, process settings and approach piping, Ahmed made several relatively easy to execute recommendations to our process and operating procedures. When we implemented his recommendations, we saw a marked improvement in our formation and paper properties and a reduction in waste and cost. The return on investment was outstanding.
The following year we asked Ahmed to return to relook at No.1 and also address our No.2 machine. The results were the same and our investment with Papyrus was quickly paid back. A Papyrus visit to our mill has become an important part of our operation and takes place on an annual basis. Each year he identifies some bad habits, product improvement ideas or process changes that yield returns far greater than his cost. One of the key parts of Ahmed's success here has been identifying high payback items that do not require large capital investment.
