PAPYRUS POINT OF VIEW REGARDING THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE PAPER INDUSTRY
The industry is currently losing not only the business side but the experienced
and qualified personnel who have been pushed aside through the influence of
major machine builders in mills decision- making. Accordingly the mills do
not select the appropriate candidates to solve their day-to-day nagging papermaking
problems.
The machine builders' claim is: "we know it all!!".
Since the industry's actions and inactions of today are already determining what it will get in the future, we would like to express our views in this matter:
1-Papermaking problems that face typical papermachine operation such as
sheet strength, porosity, curl, streaks, worming, grainy edges, holes, flutter,
formation etc.. are not solved by so called "Information
Technology". On the contrary, they
are solved by proven scientific principles which PAPYRUS
applies.
2-Waiting to solve a problem is money down the drain. Taking immediate action by selection the right experts is money added to financial profit.
3-The majority of calculations at the DCS are half truths. They are not only misleading but also deceiving.
Two among others of the classic examples of variables which are often
misinterpreted, are the headbox pressure head and the slice flow rate. Both
influence the sheet structure and machine performance.
4-When faced with papermaking problems, it is not mandatory that papermills select large machine builders to solve them. It is wiser to go to the specialists in their fields regardless of their size.
Simply stated: "the loudest speaking wheel may not
be the most
effective place to spend your funds".
5-While PAPYRUS specializes in every section of
the papermachine operation, its passion however is in the headbox area. This
is a section where immediate results
are shown when imperfections are corrected.
The reason is because it has been scientifically neglected by machine builders and never completely understood by papermakers.
Our conclusion stems from the following:
5-1 The design maybe defective
5-2 The process is always wrong
5-3 Combinations of the above.
6-Machine builders work on the following premise:
"It is much easier to be convinced to purchase some
equipment
which promises to compensate for the problem than to correct the cause"
Our response to this premise is this:
"When the basic cause of the problem changes, the
compensatory equipment no longer provides a remedy. Small wonder then one
pound of knowledge requires ten pounds of common sense to apply it"
7- One of PAPYRUS'S niches is that with the use of its EXECLUSIVE COMPUTER PROGRAMS, analyses and calculations are performed quickly, accurately, elaborately, and are easier to understand and translate into practical papermaking.
What you should look for is experience and knowledge you
can trust with a
non-disputed landmark.
